Jeff the Wedding Smarta**

Pastor: 'Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. and Mrs. [John Smith].'

Me: (rather loudly) 'What's HER name?'

I absolutely refuse to do that announcement. When they ask me to, I say, ask the DJ (or whoever) to do it at the reception!

When I meet with the couple just before the wedding I ask how they want to be introduced. THen I confirm at the rehearsal. I have found very few who do not want both first names used. ANd some (admittedly fewer) who just use names, no Mr & Mrs.

The pastor who married us asked how we wanted to be introduced, and he used both our first names at our request. Of course, he didn't ask us if he could give an incredibly homophobic sermon after we'd carefully selected texts and liturgy to be relatively neutral, but I guess you win some, you lose some. Hopefully it'll make me a little more sensitive when it's my turn to marry people.

Hi Jeff,
Since I presume it's our wedding you're referring to, I'd like you to know that neither the groom or bride actually remember the pronouncement and that the DJ did say both our names.
