Quotable Luther

"I do not believe that all the arts should be removed or forbidden on account of the Gospel, as some fanatics suggest. On the contrary, I would gladly see all arts, especially music, in the service of Him Who has given and created them."

That's a beautiful idea. I often wonder at the half-full sort of lyrics now, especially in Christian music.

Kind of reflective of the no-brainer love love love hurt love in modern music in general. OH, I sound pretty grumpy. Not that I have refined taste or anything (love reggae...folk, jazz...).

But when I read those lyrics of old, there is real connection to theology and God as center.

We Lutherans thank you for the homeboy shout-out. :-)

And I agree wholeheartedly. But I'd also like to suggest that Luther might have been horrified at the lousy art that gets produced and sold just because it's "Christian." I'm looking at you, Praise Band people...
