A Cake of Watercolor

The fall equinox was this Monday.

The author George Eliot once wrote of this time of year:
"Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns."
My soul has been wedded to this time of year for a very long time. Its return means a return of other rhythms related to work and family. It signals cooler air and a mosaic of colors soon to grace the trees.

No matter what else has been happening in my life--good or bad, wearing me down or lifting me up--I can wrap myself in this season like a blanket and take solace in its sights, smells, and tastes.

What summer or Christmas is to others, fall is to me.

Autumn's spices are delicious.

I've been celebrating it since the beginning of the month, but today I welcome its official return.
