A Prayer for a Search Ongoing

based on 1 Timothy 6:6-19

Faithful God, as we prepare for a new week and all that it may bring, we are ever seeking the presence of your Spirit to guide and empower us. Sometimes our search doesn’t take long and we feel in tune with how you are providing strength and assurance in both times of joy and struggle. But at other times we become weary in our search and, whether out of impatience or desperation, turn to other sources of comfort. We fall back on our possessions, or our dependencies, or other disordered attachments, hoping that they will help us make sense of the world around us, or at least numb us to its challenges.

So we may need some extra focus and centering today, first to unravel our reliance on things that will not satisfy our deep needs, and then to refocus our hearts and minds on your gifts of grace and peace.

O God, awaken us to what truly fulfills. Rather than cling to fleeting pleasures that fade over time, may our spirits be opened to what you generously provide. May our search for meaning begin and end with you. Amen.
