A Prayer from the Bottom of a Ladder

based on Genesis 28:10-19a

Surely you're in many places and we don't know it.

Surely you're in hospital rooms and quarantined quarters.

Surely you're in protests where people cry out for justice.

Surely you're working to reform the hearts of those who value wealth more than human life.

Surely you're with parents agonizing over the safety of their children.

Surely you are with those wondering where their next paycheck is going to come from.

Surely you are with those seeking to escape cycles of abuse.

Surely you are with those who can't go home again because their families won't accept them.

Surely you are with the lonely and the anxious who long every day for an end to their isolation.

Surely you are with a broken and bruised creation trying to heal as its exploitation continues.

Surely you are in this place and we don't know it.
